Health & Safety For Our Viral Video 02/12/13

When carrying around the equipment such as a camera, tripod and other things, it could be very heavy and hard to carry it all around so you would need to be careful because you would injure yourself. To resolve this, you could carry each bit of equipment separately to where you are going, or get a group of you to take each bit.

When walking around different locations, you could trip over when carrying the equipment with you or you could hurt yourself. To resolve this problem, you could carry each bit in bags to protect them so if you did drop them they would be a lot more protected. To avoid hurting yourself, you could watch where you are stepping as you were going from location to location. You could keep an eye out for other people walking by to make sure they don’t knock it over as we was filming.

If the weather is very bad such as raining, it could effect the equipment such as water getting onto the camera that could mess up the insides. To resolve this, if we needed to film outside and it happened to be raining, we could just have an umbrella with is to stop the camera getting wet. Fortunately we don’t need rain in our video so we shouldn’t have to deal with this problem.

When in the edit suite, you would have to be careful within the room with all the computers and the floor if you have a drink. You are not aloud to eat or drink within the edit suite because you may damage the computers within. Also, if you spill any water on the floor without knowing and nobody else knowing, then they could either slip over, making them drop they work or equipment or worse, injure them.

Viral Video Report 25/11/13

What kind of forms of promotional videos are there?

There are different kinds of video out there in websites and social networks like YouTube, Facebook and Vine. The type of videos there are shown in different ways. There are promo videos, training, information, music and sales. A training video would be a video made for a certain type of audience it was targeting, an example would be a cooking video. This would target people either young, old, is a mother or is planning on have a special meal for a large group of friends. They would watch the video step by step to help them train on how to cook that certain meal properly. In these videos you would usually see a celebrity chef doing it or somebody very well known. It was also depend on who it was aiming at and what style of cooking it was. A promo video is made to promote a certain project, for example; an iPhone, to show everybody interested in buying the phone or wanting to know a lot more about it. This would show lots of information about the phone on what functions it has, what special features it has and so on. This would be a video showing off the product, trying to appeal to a wider audience, making you as a consumer to buy it. A music video is made to promote the artist who created it and to also promote the music company that the artist is apart of.

What Code and Conventions are used in Corporate Videos?

Conventions in a viral video are

Conventions in a film is what you would expect in the genre they are listed as. An example would be horror, everybody would expect a blood, dark colours, violence, weapons, spooky music, undead people or monsters and bad weather. Horror films are made to make the audience panic and be scared when watching.

What Kind Of Techniques and Equipment Are Used?

When making a video, there is loads of different techniques you can use and equipment you need to create a certain video. Most importantly you would need a camera to record with. Without this then you wouldn’t have any luck at all. Secondly a microphone, this isn’t exactly important as much but it would depend on the location you was at, at the time. If it was in a very loud, crowded place and your aim was to only pick up one persons actual voice then yes you would need a microphone. They can also be used to give you much better quality in the audio you need. A tripod, now you would only need one of these if you was going to be filming something in one place at a time. They are used for steady filming instead of when you hold the camera it’s all wobbly and not as clear as it could be with a tripod. Lighting is very important when making a film/video. Depending on what you was filming, you would need a specific type of lighting whether it being light or dark. Going back to the camera, there are different techniques you could use with it. Depending on what kind of mood the film is or how you would want to pursue that certain character within the video. An example would be if you wanted the character to look big, powerful and overwhelming, then you would go for a low angle shot, making that character look like he’s bigger than you, if you wanted to make them look weak and vulnerable then you would have a high angle shot, looking down on that character.

How Are They Made?

When making a video, you can’t just go out with a camera, film something then come back and put it all together, because it wouldn’t make sense. You would first have to have a client liaison where you would have a meeting with your client, where they would tell you what they want you to make, how long for and why. After this you would have to go and develop some ideas. You could do this by making spider web charts, brain storms, surveys and questionnaires, depending on what your topic of video is going to be about. You would then create a PowerPoint presentation for your client, telling them brief detail about what you are going to make. You would then explain in a lot more detail when talking about it yourself. After this, is your client has approved your work, you would have to create a proposal, saying all about your idea and what is going to be included in it, a storyboard, showing each scene after scene of how you are going to present each shot within the video. Next you would have to have a script, saying every camera shot, dialogue such as which character says what and voice over if needed. You would have to write about scheduling so you know what equipment you would need for that certain day, which characters you would need, what costumes you would need to have and where you would need to go. After this you would need to write about the Health & Safety issues you would need to consider when filming such as if the location you was filming at was safe, if it was safe to carry around the equipment, what could happen if you wasn’t careful and so on.

Legal Issues

When creating our video, we would need to be careful on what we film, and how we show this information across to our audience that we are delivering too. We would need to work with the law so we would need to know what is legal or not. The obvious ones are things like guns and drugs, which cannot be in our video, even if it was a joke. Copyright will be one of our main concerns because of the music we want to use. In our video we want to use a couple songs made by famous people which is of course highly copyrighted, and if we used it, then we would get in a lot of trouble, resulting in our video not being able to be published.

Ethical Issues

First of all would be things like racism (race & religion). This is completely unacceptable and if put into our video, some people may find it very offensive. Gender would be a big factor in our video because it is about Bridgwater college which isn’t a Male or Female only college.

This Promotional video ‘Diary Of A Bridgy Student’ is one of the ones Bridgwater college students did from the previous years. The shots used in this video are medium close ups of the people talking as they walk around the college and talk about all the different things within. In my opinion, they did this to make the audience feel a bit closer to the people within the video and make them seem friendly and welcoming. The way they pursue the college is very enthusiastic and welcoming, showing all the great things about the college, and how the teachers, students and facilities are very friendly and welcoming. They way they change from scene to scene I think is brilliant because it’s very different and creative to any other videos I’ve seen before. As they show each important room within the college, it’s shows you what everybody’s like and makes you feel a lot more welcomed within the college, if you felt a bit worried before. The music used is very upbeat. This video uses the audio from what they captured from the camera and didn’t use any voice overs, I thought that this was quite good with why they did this for this particular video because it was more realistic.

This Promotional Video ‘Something Different’ is definitely something different, but in a good way, it doesn’t necessarily show the brilliant things about the college, but shows a wide range of different courses within. It shows a funner side to the different courses such as beauty, it shows that you would be doing a much wider project then just a bit of boring makeup. This video is a lot more comedic than the other ones in the way they pursue each subject. It has used a lot of imagine in the way they show things like the book about martial arts then all of a sudden an arm comes out and punches him in the face. I thought that was pretty unique and pretty funny to do. In this video they use voice overs, this was probably because of the audio at the time wasn’t right or was too loud/quiet.

Defining The Types Of Research 1/12/13

What Is Qualitative Research?

Qualitative research is when you go out and collect different things from an audience depending on what age range you are aiming at. An example would be if you wanted to collect information for a project you was going to make for a college, you would collect this information by asking 16-19 year olds, depending on what that project was. To collect this information you would ask them questions about that persons personality, what they do out of college, what type of things for example; genre of films they watch and things like what music they listen too. Qualitative research is mainly open questions where somebody would have to answer in more detail then just yes or no, meaning the research is a bit more focused on a certain thing. The way this information would be delivered would be through a big questionnaire or a survey.

What Is Quantitative Research?

Quantitative research is when you go out and collect information from an audience, depending on what you was researching about or for, eg a college. The questions that you want to be answered are mostly closed questions, meaning the audience would only answer with a yes or no. This would be typically questions like ‘Are you Male or Female’ and so on. They was this information would be delivered would be on a survey or a questionnaire.

What Is Primary Research?

Primary research is information gathered by yourself only. It is when you go out yourself and collect that certain information by doing a questionnaire or a survey. If you go onto a website or look through a book and collect that information for your work, then that is not primary research.

What Is Secondary Research?

Secondary research is when information is collected from somebody else work who has already gathered this information. An example would be from the internet. If you was to have a topic given to you and you was told to research it and you went onto the internet to found out about it, then that would be secondary research. More examples of secondary research would be from books and magazines.

What Is Audience Research?

Audience research is when you gather information from people to find out what they most like in a film/music or whatever they want to find information about. It helps the company see what there targeted audience is most interested in, meaning they can get a wider audience to watch it, meaning more money.
